Important notice to OCPP implementers19 july 2017
With the next version of the Open Charge Point Protocol 2.0, being released in late 2017, a SOAP version will no longer be released nor supported. This decision follows the latest (EV) market developments and is fully supported by both the Executive Board of the Open Charge Alliance (OCA) and the Technical Working Group of OCPP 2.0.
- A number of OCA members indicated that the protocol does not lend itself for constrained computing resources that many EVSEs operate under.
- The verbosity of the protocol could lead to slower performance and requires a higher bandwidth, which, in many cases, leads to higher cellular costs.
- The Open Charge Alliance will continue with the release of OCPP 2.0 using JSON over Websockets.
